What constitutes clickbait tactics?

In the e-commerce context, clickbait tactics are used to induce people to click on a product listing to drive up traffic for the shop. We therefore do not allow clickbait tactics as they are misleading by design. Below are some examples of clickbait tactics that you should avoid when listing products with us:

• Listing products in unusual or unconventional quantities or units

Listing a product in an eye-catching but bewildering manner, such as selling tissue as individual pieces instead of traditional box packs

• Changing a product's attributes

Altering product details such as title, image, or attributes to make it appear as a different product, such as modifying the title and images of a basic laptop to make it appear as a premium gaming laptop with high-end specifications.

• Manipulating traffic

Artificially increasing the visibility of product listings through deceptive means, such as irrelevant keywords or simulated traffic, such as using irrelevant keywords like "luxury" or "exclusive" in product listings that have no connection to those terms.

• Deceptive pricing practices

This includes listing unrelated products together, combining different items from the same category, mixing products with varying attributes and prices, showcasing large price differences, listing secondhand or unsatisfactory items alongside new ones and listing products at exaggerated, unrealistic promotional prices.

• Incentivising positive reviews

Offering customers a free gift or a discount on their next purchase in exchange for leaving a 5-star review.

What happens if I breach these guidelines?

If you are found to violate these guidelines, you may have enforcement actions taken against your account. You should note that repeated offenses will result in more significant penalties.
