What is an Account Takeover and How to Prevent it

An Account Takeover happens when a TikTok Shop by Tokopedia account has been compromised due to unauthorised account access. To prevent an account takeover from happening, users are encouraged to take the following steps to keep their account secure:

1. Keep Your Login Information Confidential

Do not share any sensitive account details like usernames, passwords, One-Time-Passwords (OTPs), PINs, or credentials with anyone. Sharing this information could lead to unauthorised access and control of your Shop Account.Remember, TikTok Shop by Tokopedia will never request such information from users. Even if someone claims to be a TikTok Shop by Tokopedia employee, do not disclose your login details or credentials.Always keep your login details and credentials private, known only to the owner of the TikTok Shop by Tokopedia account.

2. Use Secure Passwords

Passwords are the key to your Shop Account. As the first defence against unauthorised access, passwords should be unique and only be known to you. To keep your online account and the information within it safe, we encourage our users to do the following:

• Do not use sequential numbers or letters in your password. For example, do not use abcd, 3456, qwerty, jhgf, etc.
• Do not include or use your birth year or birth month/day in your password. Remember that unauthorized individuals can easily find this information through public social media accounts.
• Use a combination of at least eight letters, numbers, and symbols. The longer your password and the more character variety it uses, the harder it is to guess. Phishing is a fraudulent practice of inducing individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers.

3. Activate 2-Step Verification (2SV)

TikTok Shop by Tokopedia offers you the ability to secure your account with two-step verification (2SV), so additional verification is required each time you log in. To enable two-step verification:

1. log in to your TikTok Shop by Tokopedia Seller Center
2. Go to My Account > Seller Profile > Account Information > Account Security
3. Choose your preferred verification method under the 'Two-step verification' section.

Note: the Authenticator App is a mobile security application that generates a two-factor login code. It allows you to generate a unique code that makes it more difficult for a hacker to gain physical access to your phone. Please ensure that your authentication app is installed on a secured device that only you can access.

4. Ignore Suspicious Links and Files

Keep your account safe from unauthorised access by ignoring any links or attachments sent by non-verified or unknown sources. Do not click on any links or download any files as suspicious links could direct you to phishing sites that attempt to obtain your login details, while suspicious files may install malicious software on your device.

1. Never provide your TikTok Shop by Tokopedia account information, such as username, password, OTP, or PIN, on online forms or websites.
2. Do not download any files or attachments sent by unknown sources, external parties, or unverified senders.

Be cautious of third parties who promise account services or prizes in exchange for your account details. Safeguard your account by keeping this information confidential.Remember, your login details and credentials should never be shared and should only be known to the owner of the account.

6. Manage your Shop's Administrative and User Permissions

Managing administrative access to your account is important because it has full control over your various permissions on TikTok Shop by Tokopedia. You can manage your shop's user permissions and assign roles to related accounts (i.ie sub-accounts). The main account with administrative access will have permission on all seller settings, while sub-accounts can have different permissions assigned to them.
